I was educated as an engineer of catalytic technologies. For a long time I have been working as an educator and practitioner of industrial catalysis. The focus of my research is on the development of catalytic reactors and processes for energy conversion. In recent years, I guided active research projects on photo catalytic water splitting, lignin de-polymerization, solid oxide fuel cell with non-hydrogen fuels, direct carbon fuel cell, selective catalytic reduction of NOx with ammonia, hydrogen production with membrane reactors, and non-aqueous flow batteries. The purpose of the efforts is to increase the efficiency of energy conversion both for renewable and fossil resources. The keys are the design principles of catalysts and reactors. Those are the scientific bases in multiscale and are the frontier topics in chemistry, physics and engineering disciplines.

I came recently from Tianjin University, China, where I worked as a full professor since Jan. 1994 and Cheung Kong Chair Professor of Industrial Catalysis since 2007. In this period I had the opportunity to work as a visiting researcher/professor in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1999), EPFL in Lausanne (2007), University of Michigan (2009) and Yale University (2015).
