I am a Full Professor of audio signal processing and the Vice Dean for Research (electrical engineering) at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. I am leading the Audio Signal Processing Research Group, which belongs to the Aalto Acoustics Lab. My duties include teaching of courses in audio signal processing and supervision of Master's and doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, who are specializing in acoustics and audio technology. My research interests include headset and loudspeaker signal processing, machine learning for audio processing, audio effects processing, sound synthesis, equalizing filters, and reverberation algorithms. I am a Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society and the IEEE. I was the General Chair of the Sound and Music Computing Conference SMC-17 and of the DAFx-08 conference. I am a Senior Area Editor of a top-tier journal of my field, the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing. In 2020, I was a Guest Editor of the Digital Audio Effects DAFx special issue for the Applied Sciences journal.
The application period for Master's studies in Acoustics and Audio Technology at Aalto University is usually from the beginning of December until early January. All our courses are taught in English.
