Tommi A. Karhela (born 1972) received the Masterof Science in Technology from Tampere University of Technology with the major computational physics in 1996. He received degree of Doctor of Science in Technology from Helsinki University of Technology in 2002. The title of the doctoral thesis was “A software architecture for configuration and usage of process simulation models”. He worked for 10 years as a Research Professor at Technical Research Centre of Finland (until 2018). He had also a parallel position as a Professor of Practice at the Aalto University for five years (2013-2018). From 1996 to 2009 he worked as research scientist and team leader at the Technical Research Centre of Finland. Currently Dr. Karhela is working as a Chairman of the Board at a software company Semantum specialized in engineering automation and simulation based digital twins. He has also a parallel position of Visiting Professor at the Aalto University. Dr. Karhela is a member of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) TC Industrial Informatics and Co-chair of the subcommittee on Simulation. He has received a VTT award on 2010 on exceptional performance and Finnish Automation award on 2011 on the work with the Simulation Integration Environment - Simantics.
