During 2012 I was responsible for the Secretariat of the European Design Innovation Initiative. As the Secretary General I facilitated the work of the European Design Leadership Board in making policy recommendations to the European Commission on how to better exploit the potential of design for innovation and to reinforce the linkages between design, innovation and competitiveness. The recommendations have been published in the report titled Design for Growth and Prosperity that I co-edited. The hosting of the Secretariat by Aalto ARTS was based on fixed term contract with the European Commission.
Before joining Aalto ARTS I worked as the Head of New Solutions at Aalto PRO. I have a long track record in R&D project work in the area of knowledge intensive work support and learning. Through the project work I have gained experience in technology enhanced learning (e-learning) R&D, professional training, and foresight in Education and Training. I have worked with higher education institutes as well as companies. At Aalto PRO I was responsible for concept development for new products and services.
Since January 2010 I have been the Director of the Editorial Board at eLearning Papers - this European journal adds a new dimension to the exchange of information and experience on eLearning in Europe. As such, the articles provide views regarding the current situation and eLearning trends in various communities: schools, universities, companies, civil society and companies. eLearning Papers provides all those interested with an opportunity to have their texts published throughout Europe. Through these articles, the journal promotes the use of ICT for lifelong learning in Europe. eLearningPapers is supported by the European Commission DG Education and Culture.
During 2006-2012 I have served as an Executive Committee member of the European Distance and e-Learning Network. EDEN, established in 1991, an international educational association open to institutions and individuals dealing with e-learning, open and distance education. The Association embraces all levels of formal and non-formal education and training and hosts the largest, active and dynamic professional community of experts and practitioners of electronic distance education who are representing 50 countries from Europe and from other continents. EDEN Executive Committee members are elected by the EDEN General Meeting for a three year term of office, and can hold office for a maximum of two consecutive three years terms.
