T107 Bioproducts and Biosystems
Muhammad MUJTABA has received his Ph.D. in biotechnology (2020) from Biotechnology Institute, Ankara University, Turkey. His Master's and Ph.D. research has funded by The Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey under program number 2215. He has carried out several research stays in different research centers (Aksaray University Turkey, University of the Basque Country, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg).
His research focuses on the production, characterization, and application of biomaterials such as cellulose, chitin, chitosan, sporopollenin, and biosilica. His focus is on the utilization of waste materials for the eco-friendly production of biomaterials such as cellulose and chitin, due to their enormous advantages for both environment and humans.
His primary research goals are;
i) to discover these secret materials in nature (from plant or animal bodies),
ii) to characterize them in detail by using the high-tech instrument,
iii) to solve how these materials naturally assembled in nano-size,
iv) to share them with other scientists from different disciplines and
v) to transfer them into the industry for the benefit of society.
In this context, during his master's and Ph.D. studies, he focused on the development and isolation techniques for cellulose, chitin, Mucilage, Sporopollenin, Biosilica, Bioglass, and chitosan.
Besides, he investigated and characterized these isolated biopolymers for different applications such as transparent composite films for food coating, drug carriers for controlled release, absorbent for biomolecules, and as reinforcement materials in polymeric blends.
He is a member of the reviewer board for different journals such as the Journal of Composite Science, Polymers (MDPI). So far reviewed articles for different journals like Carbohydrate Polymers, Polymer Testing, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Industrial Crops, and Products, etc.
