I am Executive-in-Residence at Aalto University and currently lead Aalto Health Platform, a broad-scope business & tech institute of about 100 professors (health.aalto.fi) and am active regarding the B2C eCommerce industry.
By professional background, I am a business executive whose experience includes division/P&L-wide responsibility for global functions and processes including business strategy, business development, and product strategy, and have experience also in high-growth high-tech entrepreneurship in B2C and B2B markets alike. I also have experience in financing growth business as a private equity investor.
I have worked in Finland, the US, the UK, and Norway. My career orientation is to work with the international business of technology-based growth business and internet commerce industries, possibly via consulting/investments.
Industry expertise: ICT & eCommerce, finance, healthcare, energy, bio. Technology basis: SW, EE, and mechanical. My current work keeps me closely up-to-date with IT trends such as AI/ML/data-analytics and 5G/IoT/Industry 4.0/Cloud.
Prior to my current roles at Aalto University, I worked for Wärtsilä Corporation e.g. as Director and Head of the Business Development function for the groupwide Services P&L (net sales ca. EUR 2bn; 11,500 personnel; 70 facilities countries). Before Wärtsilä in 2008-2010, I was in private equity as Director, Business Development for the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.
Formerly, I held chair as Professor of Software Development at the University of Turku, was Director of Laboratory at Turku Center for Computer Science, and was earlier an acting full professor. I was also Research Director, Senior Researcher and Docent at Helsinki University of Technology, and worked at e.g. Morgan Stanley, Stanford University, and the Wharton School. I am a former Business Fellow and Junior Fellow of the Finnish Business and Policy Forum (EVA) and an Academy of International Business Haynes Prize recipient.
I am a board member at the Health Capital Helsinki innovation alliance (www.healthcapitalhelsinki.fi) of our public, hospital, and R&D collaborators. My hobbies are sports, reading, and culture.
