My work, teaching and research, is connected with biomass refining. Currently I am in charge of three master's level courses: Biomass Pretreatment and Fractionation - in Laboratory (5 cr), Academic Learning Community (3-5 cr), and Planning and Execution of a Biorefinery Investment Project (5 cr), which is realized in collaboration with the company AFRY. I also teach in a bachelor-level course Teollisuuden toimintaympäristö ja prosessit (in Finnish; the course is intended to give an introduction to the chemical, forest, and mining industry; their processes, products, and utilization of the natural resources). In addition, I instruct Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. students' theses. My fields of interest include biomass fractionation with chemical and mechanical methods (e.g. chemical and mechanical pulping), wood chemistry, and pedagogy in higher education. Also, I play the guitar and sing in our department's band.

I was appointed as Senior University Lecturer (biomass refining) from March 1st, 2020. January 2009 - March 2014 I worked as a Teaching Researcher in the Biorefineries research group, and my term as University Lecturer was from April 2014 to February 2020.
I graduated as Master of Science in 1997 from University of Jyväskylä, Finland. My M.Sc. major was organic chemistry and minors biochemistry and environmental sciences.
In October 2006 I defended my doctoral thesis at Helsinki University of Technology (TKK; today a part of Aalto University), Department of Forest Products Technology. The topic of my studies was polyoxometalate-catalysed oxygen delignification of papermaking pulp, and the research was carried out in a project partially funded by industrial companies. The thesis, titled "Distribution and redox reactions of certain polyoxometalate anions in chemical pulp suspensions" was accepted with honours (for an electronic version, see http://urn.fi/urn:nbn:fi:tkk-008245).
2007-2008 I spent in Montevideo, Uruguay with my family working in a cooperation project between TKK and School of Engineering of UdelaR (Universidad de la República - Facultad de Ingeniería). As a result of this cooperation project, a master's programme in pulp and paper technology was started with the local counterparts. This programme was the very first in this area in Uruguay.
In addition to Finland and Uruguay, I have lived in Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, and United States for studying and working.
