My research interest lies broadly in examining the relationship between corporations and other societal actors, such as consumers, communities, governments and civil society organizations. I am especially interested in questions of legitimacy and in discursive research methods.
My teaching interest and experience span from courses on organizational communication and global virtual team work to organizational analysis and business and society relations.
My research interest lies broadly in examining the role of large corporations and their relationship to other societal actors, that is consumers, communities, governments and civil society organizations, in dealing with sustainability issues. I am especially interested in understanding how large corporations can either support or hinder sustainable development goals towards a healthier society and envronment.
I received my doctoral degree in 2017. My dissertation focused on organizational responses to institutional complexity. Empirically, I examined how the American beverage industry attempts to manage the social issue of obesity.
In my postdoctora research, I focus on CEO activism in the US and seek to increase our understanding of this increasingly important phenomenon. I examine the tactical repertoire of CEOs as social activists and the potential consequences of such action not only for social movements and their goals but also for the focal corporations and the career and identity of CEOs themselves.
In addition to doing research, I am running the course Business and Socit together with Mr. Esko Aho, Aalto University Executive in Residence, for Bachelor-level students.
Before joining the ranks of academia, I worked in international business and banking for over a decade.
