I work currently as a postdoctoral fellow at the Aalto University School of Business (Philosophy of Management) in my research
project "Technological expectations and justice in the bioeconomy", funded by Maj and Thor Nessling Foundation. Previous research projects in which I have worked includeThe Role of Justice in Decisions on Bioeconomy, Synthetic Biology and
Ethics, Bioeconomy and Justice (BioEcoJust), and Justice and Its Alternatives in a Globalizing World (OIVA). For project descriptions, please see https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-management-s...
I defended my doctoral thesis "Hijacking responsibility - Philosophical studies on health distribution" at the University of Helsinki (Social and Moral Philosophy) in October 2018. In the thesis, I examine the theoretical background of a political trend, the responsibilization of the individual. The trend turns complex societal issues like poverty and sickness into simple questions of individual responsibility. I look the issue especially from point of view of distribution of health and argue that discussions on responsibility have been hijacked by a simplified backward-looking desert-based view. My main claim is that responsibility should not have a role in the distribution of primary goods. https://helda.helsinki.fi/handle/10138/241213
My current research interests situate at the intersections of political philosophy, science and technology studies, philosophy of technology, and methods in applied ethics.
Currently, I work as a researcher in project related to bioeconomy and justice. In 2015-2017, I coordinated the project Justice
and its Alternatives in a Globalizing world, see http://management.aalto.fi/fi/disciplines/philosophy/research-philosophy/oiva/.

My work is related to theories of justice, liberal egalitarianism, distributive and social justice, the philosophy of responsibility, the social determinants of health, bioethics, and ethics of technology in general.
My academic life began as a biologist, or more specifically, as a genetist. I completed a Bsc in genetics, but then got really interested in Social and Moral Philosophy, where I started my second degree. I am happy to be able to relate my earlier degree to my current work in bioethics, and the ethics and political philosophy of genetics.
