Hossein Mostafaei completed a PhD in Operations Research late 2016. He succeeded to complete his PhD program with shining results in Convex Optimization, Nonlinear Integer Programming and Interior Point Method. His research interests lie at the interface between Process Systems Engineering and Operations Research. He visited the Department of Statistics and Operations Research of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon for 6 months, from February 6 to August 2, 2016, and worked under the supervision of Dr. Pedro M Castro and did research under the topic of rigorous scheduling formulations for multi-product pipelines (using Generalized Disjunctive Programming) and global optimization of nonlinear problems. Thus far, he has published several articles in reputed journals including Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research, Computers and Operations Research, Optimization and Engineering, AIChE J and Computers and Chemical Engineering. He is currently a postdoc fellow at the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, Aalto University, working under the supervision of Prof. Iiro Harjunkoski. The main mission is to investigate how the existing and available data could be utilized for supporting process automation and improving decision making, ultimately leading to more context-aware, holistic and optimal operations.
