Professor (D.Sc.) Hannu Hyyppä (born in 1961) is as the head of the Research Institute of Measuring and Modeling for the Built Environment since 2007.

He has 32 years of work experience in the research of civil and environmental engineering and geoinformatics.

SCIENTIFIC AND SOCIETAL IMPACT

His references are represented by over 420 publications in the fields of civil engineering and geoinformatics, including more than 120 scientific refereed publications.

H.Hyyppä has contributed in two handbooks: The SAGE Handbook of Remote Sensing (2009) and Topographic Laser Ranging and Scanning: Principles and Processing (2008), chapters concerning airborne laser scanning. His specialization is 3D laser scanning and remote sensing methods in civil engineering (one of the leading expects in the world - see H-index). H.Hyyppä has also published the best practices of airborne laser scanning in Finland.

He has also been secretary general and technical-co-chair of ISPRS Laser Scanning 2007 and Silvilaser 2007 conferences.

He is an inventor for several patents/pending patents.
