My background is in photography - I have finished my MA in Photography in 2001, worked in photojournalism and visual arts, and finished my doctoral thesis on editorial photography in 2014. At Aalto, I teach mainly documentary photography, photography research methods, and different genres of writing for MA and doctoral students. Beside teaching, I do research on a quite multidisciplinary basis, stretching through fields of pedagogy, media studies, and artistic photography research. I am also a professional writer, having published two novels, short stories, essays, articles, and having a monthly column on visual culture and photography in the Suomen Kuvalenti news magazine. Currently I'm writing and editing an essay book with 10 other writers on photography, which will be published by Kustantamo S&S in April 2022.
