My research concentrates on human-nature relationship and social-ecological systems in the context of landscape and urban planning. I'm interested in biodiversity, green infrastructures and climate change adaptation in urban development and landscape planning processes. I'm experienced with co-creation methods and see it both as an important tool to scale up urban sustainability and an interesting research method in landscape architecture.
My research concentrates on water sensitive urban design and green infrastructures. I'm interested in sustainable urban development and and climate change adaptation in the context of urban hydrology. In my doctoral research I'm aiming to develop new approaches to integrate hydrological and natural processes into urban design.
Currently I am working as the project coordinator of the iWater project (http://www.integratedstormwater.eu), which is funded by the Interreg Central Baltic Program and run by seven cities form the Baltic Sea Area and Aalto university department of architecture. The project is strongly focused on the practical implementation of sustainable stormwater solutions and supporting tools.
I also participate an international Stormwater Pilot project coordinated by City of Turku and the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Southwest Finland. Aim of the project is to develop stormwater risk management in collaboration with Finnish and Chinese administrators and Aalto University.
With VirMa (Vihreä infrastruktuuri ja Maisema) research team we have ongoing research project focused on identifying the key challenges of green infrastructure planning and design especially in Finnish cities.
I have 20 years experience in practice on the field of landscape architecture and urban planning.
