Teaching is a learning path for me; I am open to learning new things from students and co-workers as well as from teaching the topics that are out of my expertise. My aim in teaching is to create a situation where students become enthusiastic about understanding the subject themselves and consequently deeply integrate new content and frames of meaning into their way of thinking. Also, I want to have an inclusive interaction with the students and to create spaces to acknowledge the ways students’ different relations to social power and privilege can affect interactions in the learning space.
My work is focused on the manifestation of sustainability in the built environment sector. It brings new evidence to the stakeholders and helps them in obtaining a holistic understanding of sustainability and addressing the shortcomings identified in their performance. I study the phenomenon in three contexts: corporate performance, urban planning, and built environment policies. I am also familiar with LCA and EIA through instructing master’s theses in the field of real estate economics. Moreover, I analyse and digesting a large amount of data with different methods, such as quantitative and qualitative content analysis, discourse analysis, and case study, which increased my analytical thinking and data management skills. During this time, I secured several sources of funding that proves my skills in fundraising, influencing and commercial awareness.
I am conducting my doctoral degree in the real estate economics group (REG), department of built environment. My doctoral thesis focuses on evaluating corporate and municipal sustainability performance through development of sustainability accounting frameworks with special focus on social dimension. The research is conducted under Professor Kauko Viitanen supervision.
